The 1883 Racketeer Nickel represents a pivotal moment in U.S. coinage history. Released without the word "CENTS" on the reverse, these nickels were quickly counterfeited and gold-plated to deceive unsuspecting collectors and merchants. The absence of denomination markings created a perfect opportunity for fraud, making this issue one of the most infamous in numismatic lore.

This particular coin showcases Liberty's profile on the obverse and an ornamental wreath on the reverse, struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel. Whether you're completing a Liberty Head Nickel collection or exploring error and variety coins, the 1883 Racketeer holds significant historical appeal and collector value. A distinctive piece for serious numismatists and history enthusiasts alike.
